NASW Lobby Day

SAVE THE DATE: NASW Lobby Day, February 19, 2007

Remember to make room in your calendar for the 2007 NASW Lobby Day in Olympia on Presidents’ Day holiday, February 19, 2007! This is the day 100s of social workers and social work students will meet in Olympia to demonstrate the cumulative power of professional social workers to make a real difference in people’s lives. From across the state we will join together to advocate for social work title protection, health coverage for all children, a fair and adequate budget for health and human services, and other issues critical to the well-being of vulnerable people.

Lobby Day will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the General Administration Building auditorium, 11th Avenue and Columbia Street, at the Capitol. Our lobbyist, Nick Federici, will brief participants on priority issues. Advocates will share strategies for effective advocacy and prepare participants for afternoon visits with their legislators. After the training we will join advocates from the Children’s Alliance and other groups for a march to the Capitol steps and a rally for public policy that is responsive to the needs of people in our state.

This is a great time to get together every year and reinvigorate ourselves and our commitments to creating political and systemic change. It’s satisfying to connect with old friends and make new ones. We hope you’ll join us this year!

For more information on how to get involved, contact LAC co-chairs Lynn Carrigan (ltc@u.washington.edu) or Lu Brown (luspokane@aol.com).
