2006 Social Worker Awards
The 2006 NASW Washington State Chapter Annual Awards were presented at the Chapter’s Annual Conference on April 21, 2006. The Awards were presented to the: Social Worker of the Year, Social Work Educators of the Year, Outstanding Student of the Year, Social Work Agency of the Year, Citizens of the Year, President’s Award, and Lifetime Recognition Award. 2007 Social Worker Awards Nominations
Your input counts! Do you know a Washington social worker that should be recognized? Do you know a Washington agency that should be recognized for its service? The Chapter Awards Committee wants to hear from you and your nominations for the 2007 Social Worker Awards. You can influence the 2006 state legislative races. The WAPACE (Political Action for Candidate Election) is accepting contribution to WAPACE, the Political Action Committee for NASW Washington State Chapter.

WAPACE Contributes to Legislative Races
the WAPACE, the political action arm on NASW Washington State Chapter, has contributed to several key legislative races for the 2006 election. Please review the list of candidates that have been presented a WAPACE contribution check. The WAPACE will be identifying more legislative candidates to receive support of social workers in the weeks before the November election.
LAC Takes Position on State Ballot Initiatives
The Chapter’s Legislative Action Committee took positions on three state ballot initiatives voters will decide on Election Day November 7, 2006. The Initiatives are I-920, I-937, and I-933.

Continuing Education Schedule
The professional development workshops for the Fall of 2006 and Winter of 2007 is on the Chapter website www.nasw-wa.org. To sign up for one of these workshops; “Good Ethics, Good Practice: The Ethics & Practicalities of Boundaries” with Joan C. Golston, DCSW, LICSW, October 13, 2006; and “Addiction Disorders: Critical Issues in Family Treatment” with Claudia Black, MSW, PhD, February 23, 2007. If you are planning on taking the social work licensure exam, then attend one of the “Licensure Exam Prep” courses with Jonathan Beard, MSSW, LICSW, CPRP, November 4, 2006 or January 27, 2007.

Social Work Classification
The Washington Chapter of the National Association for Social Workers opposes the Civil Service Reforms proposed for 2007 to place state social workers with professional degrees in social work into new "Social Services Case Manager" or "Mental Health Counselor” classifications. We support the plan for those without social work degrees to be placed in the new classifications. We propose a classification for social workers with professional degrees in social work.
