Believe it or not, I think summer is starting to show itself. All the signs are there…leaving the house without a coat in the mornings, staying up a bit later each night because it seems too bright out to go to bed, spending way too much time picking weeds, and actually looking forward to running even on the days I’m not motivated because it gives me an excuse to be outside.

2008 Election Results

The NASW Washington State Chapter elections were held during the month of April 2007 and May 2007. The ballots were mailed out approximately April 15, 2007, to all member of record. All ballots were to be returned postmarked by May 31, 2007, to be eligible to be counted.

2007 Legislative Session Final Report

The NASW Washington State Chapter had a good year at the State Capitol. We monitored many issues and introduced legislation on social work title protection. We had over 250 social workers attend 2007 Lobby Day. The members’ support of the issues was outstanding.

2007 and 2008 Education Workshops

The education workshop schedule for the remainder of 2007 is out. To register for an ethics workshop, or “Conducting Effective Mental Status and Risk Assessments”, or the Social Work License Exam Preparations workshops go to the Chapter website; www.nasw-wa.org and register today. More education workshops are being added monthly.

2008 Committees “Become Involved”

One of the best ways to become involved in the NASW Washington State Chapter is to join a committee. By participating on a Chapter committee you unite yourself with liked minded professionals that share common interests. Your participation in a committee allows you to interact with future colleagues and peers. Your participation in a committee allows you to network with other social workers and build a foundation of collegiate spirit.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is in the process of developing quality measures for 2008 for Medicare providers who would like to participate in the Medicare bonus incentive payment program.

June Legal Issue of the Month - NASW Code of Ethics

The June “Legal Issue of the Month” article that reviews the use of the NASW Code of Ethics in state social work laws. This may be a particularly useful resource to social work and advocacy staff. An appendix lists the court cases referencing the NASW Code of Ethics. This article provides a summary description of the ways the Code has been recognized as a legal standard among the states.
