NASW is the largest organization of professional social workers in the world, totaling over 155,000 in 55 Chapters in the United States, its territories and Europe. The Washington State Chapter has over 2,600 members in seven separate Regions, located geographically within the state boundaries.

NASW members are located in a wide variety of job settings, including health care, industry, schools, community mental health, nursing homes, family and children settings, public agencies, etc. and effect the lives of many thousands of Washington residents. Members meet educational requirements, including a degree in social work, and the majority qualify through professional experience and examination for certification by NASW's Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW). All members are pledged to abide by NASW Professional Code of Ethics.

All of NASW's program goals are directed toward improving the quality of life, and ensuring that the same rights and opportunities are enjoyed by all citizens.
