Title:  Time Moves Different in Here; Clinical implications for working with populations of color, complex trauma and dissociation in the age of COVID 19

Workshop Summary:

Gain deeper understanding of the impact of neurobiology on symptomology presentation for individuals with complex PTSD. Learn a combination of diagnosis and interventionist tools of dissociation to consider when engaged in treatment of populations of color. Identify future areas of work/growth, boundaries as practitioners as the continued need for mental health treatment remains an essential service during the COVID 19 pandemic in the U.S. This workshop:

• Provides advanced and specialty themes regarding the neurobiological implications of exposure to historical, intergenerational, attachment and medical trauma on psychosocial functioning for populations of color.

• Offers curriculum specific (case history implications, interventions, differential diagnosis considerations) to treatment modalities for systemic family systems work, ego state work, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). It is essential to provide additional platforms and representation for providers of color as well as ethical considerations for the treatment of populations of color, as the U.S continues to address the COVID 19 pandemic, as well as the need for targeted reform for recognizing and dismantling white supremacy as it impacts the national mental health care delivery system.

• Emphasizes experiential activities via role play, mirroring, Socratic questioning, and collaborative group processing in conjunction with workshop presenter provided case vignettes to address real time application/practice of clinical techniques, and assessment during the therapeutic process.

Presenter Bio: Andrea Razook LICSW, MSW, MHP, EMMHS

Andrea Razook LICSW, MSW, MHP, EMMHS has 8 years’ post-MSW experience working in a combination of settings within community health, hospital, and private practice. Andrea provides expert case consultation for providers regarding clinical considerations for the treatment of dissociation in complex trauma presentations particularly for populations of color. She has exposure to historical, intergenerational, attachment, and medical trauma across the lifespan. Andrea identifies as a POC provider, first generation to refugee parents, is of Chinese Lebanese descent and bilingual in Spanish and English.
