NASW-Washington State Chapter is pleased to offer this popular course to social workers seeking to become licensed at the advanced or clinical levels. The Licensure Examination Preparation Course will assist social workers in their preparations to take either the clinical or advanced generalist level ASWB exam that is required for social work licensure in the State of Washington and most other states.

The Course has been extensively revised and updated to reflect the changes made by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), the administrator of social work licensure examinations in the U.S. and many parts of Canada, in the clinical and advanced generalist level examinations. From 2015 to 2016, ASWB conducted its sixth analysis of the practice of social work to update the content and weighting of the blueprints for the social work licensure exams. The practice analysis is critical for ensuring that the content of each exam is relevant to current professional practice and reflects the opinions and expertise of a diverse group of stakeholders. Beginning January 2, 2018, all exam categories reflect the new content outlines. More information about the revised knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to either the clinical or advanced generalist level exam that were identified in the practice analysis may be found at the ASWB website, www.aswb.org. 

The changes made to the licensing exam blueprints based on this practice analysis include minor structural and editorial modifications for comprehensiveness and currency. The most extensive changes were observed for the Advanced Generalist exam blueprint. The content areas and the percentages derived from the 2015-2016 practice analysis are generally consistent with the previous practice analysis outcomes. Of primary importance was ensuring that the statements are easy for candidates to understand and meaningful for individuals involved in exam development activities.

The ASWB advanced and clinical level examinations each use 150 scored questions to measure competency across 4 content areas. The Licensure Examination Preparation Course reorganized its content to reflect these 4 content areas and has added new content where needed to reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities identified by ASWB as essential to social work practice in the 21st century. 

The course retains its well-received approach of emphasizing three elements as significantly contributing to a passing score on the examination. These are anxiety management, focused content review and avoiding mistakes in answering questions. The course includes a 200+ page manual and a sample test, helpful in practicing the techniques of avoiding mistakes in answering questions.

About the Presenter:   

Wendy Warman, MSW, LICSW has been a proud member of NASW since 1976. A graduate of the University of Oregon and Washington, she has worked with children and their families for over 36 years. Wendy has the unique experience of working in nonprofits agencies, state public child welfare and is now in private practice in the Lynnwood area. She has worked in the areas of foster parenting, administration of programs, grant development, supervision and community mental health. In addition to individual counseling, she currently provides individual and group supervision for MSW’s who are preparing for licensure.

This is a 6 hours workshop from 9am-4:30pm, however only 3 CE Contact hours are available.
